Why having your Porsche serviced regularly pays for itself

You’ll be aware that having your Porsche serviced regularly maintains optimum performance and safety, but did you know that it also helps your car to retain more of its value?

Why having your Porsche serviced regularly pays for itself

As we’re in the business of servicing Porsches, the more cynical among you could be forgiven for concluding that we have a vested interest in persuading owners to have their cars serviced regularly and keep the lads in the workshop busy. And that is true, but there is evidence that you will benefit financially from having your Porsche serviced by us.

Retaining value

Whenever anyone asks us for advice about buying a used Porsche, one of the first things we mention is to look for a car with a full service history from an OPC or a reputable Porsche specialist and to ask to see the invoices for any work carried out. A detailed record like that should demonstrate that the car has been properly cared for and that no major problems are imminent.

So, when you come to sell your car, you can expect prospective buyers to be looking for the same thing. It should be no surprise then that used car buyers are willing to pay more for a model with a complete service history.

A survey conducted for Kwik Fit in 2014 discovered that 45% of motorists would not purchase a used car that did not have a full service history. Those who were willing to consider it expected an average discount of 19% to go through with the deal.

With that in mind, it’s easy to see how not having your Porsche properly maintained could knock upwards of £3,000 off the value when you come to sell it – much more than it would cost you to have it serviced regularly for a few years.

One thing to bear in mind is that drivers searching for a used Porsche tend to be real enthusiasts and are more likely than the average buyer to have done their research. They’ll have read things like the Auto Express Porsche 997 buyer’s guide – which states, “The key is to buy a car with a full history, maintained by a Porsche expert” – and be ready to ask questions about your car’s maintenance regime.

Have your car serviced by Revolution Porsche and not only can you say it has been maintained by a specialist, you can also tell the prospective buyer that they can contact us to confirm what work has been done – we’re always happy to answer questions.

Managing running costs

No-one likes shelling out for a service and it can seem particularly frustrating to have to spend money on maintenance for a car that has been wholly reliable; but it is a sensible investment.

Having your Porsche serviced and the fluids changed regularly will protect the engine and decrease wear, while having a skilled technician inspect it using the best diagnostic tools will help to spot any potential issues at an early stage.

Ignoring basic maintenance tasks and skipping services in the hope of saving a few quid can prove to be a costly mistake. A single failed component in the engine or transmission can cause damage to a host of other parts, leaving you with a large repair bill.

The cost of replacement parts for performance cars is much higher than for mass production vehicles, so any major repair to your Porsche has the potential to be very expensive. A service will more than pay for itself if our technician identifies and rectifies a problem before it deteriorates into a serious issue.

Another thing to remember about Porsche servicing is that it really needs to be done by a specialist rather than a general garage. Even highly-skilled experienced mechanics, who you would trust to work on most cars, will struggle to do a good job on a Porsche engine, as they will not have had the right training and will not have access to the right diagnostic tools.
