Keeping Porsche radiators clean - why it’s a key maintenance job

eagle

One of the maintenance jobs most commonly overlooked by Porsche owners is keeping the front radiators clean. It should be part of the standard routine, but when it’s not the consequences can be expensive.

In a number of popular Porsche models the coolant radiators - along with the air-conditioning condensers - are located close to the front air intakes, meaning they get covered in dirt, salt and leaves sucked in through those air scoops.

That combination of dirt, salt and rotting vegetation often causes the radiators to corrode, particularly if they’ve already suffered minor damage from stone chips.

Once corrosion sets in, neither coolant radiators nor air-conditioning condensers can be repaired and you will have no choice but to replace them.

Keeping the radiator and condenser clean will significantly reduce your risk of having to spend money on replacements. However, it can be difficult to do due to where they are located; for example, in a 996 or a Boxster 986 the front bumper needs to be removed to clean the radiators.

The air intakes will be cleared and the radiator cleaned as part of a service, but as the recommended service intervals can be as long as 24 months, there is plenty of time for dirt and leaves to amass in between.

How can Revolution Porsche help?

If you are concerned about the condition of the front radiators in your Porsche and keeping them clean, get in touch with us. We’re happy to give you some advice and, if necessary, can clean them for you to reduce the risk of corrosion.

Our trained technicians will remove the bumper, clean the vents, check the radiators and condensers for signs of damage, and refit everything for £60+VAT.

We also offer a preventative solution in the form of Zunsport stainless steel grilles, which are available for most Porsche models.

The stylish and hardwearing grilles can be fitted over the front air intakes to prevent leaves being sucked in and to deflect debris thrown up from the road, providing protection for the radiator and condenser.
